Accredited Chest Pain Center & Cardiac Cath Lab
Chest Pain Center:
In 2022, Haywood Regional Medical Center renewed their accreditation status as a Chest Pain Center by ACC Accreditation Services, the accrediting arm of the American College of Cardiology. This accreditation means we have achieved a higher level of expertise in caring for patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack. The accredited Chest Pain Center's protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians, nurses and staff to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether or not they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that patients are neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.

Interventional Cardiology
Our experienced cardiac catheterization team performs procedures using balloons, stents, and other devices to open blockages, or repair damaged blood vessels of the heart or body. This often avoids the need for surgery.
Common treatable conditions include coronary artery disease (narrowing of the coronary arteries), heart valve disease, or peripheral vascular disease. These can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart attacks, stroke, or loss of limbs.
Interventional procedures are done under a local anesthetic and patient recovery is usually less than 24 hours. Patients are often home within two days of the procedure and back to their normal routine within one week. Interventional services can be performed during a cardiac catheterization if a problem is revealed during this diagnostic procedure.
